Sometimes things go wrong. In our case with the rigging. The rigger used a rough sketch, and not the final approved drawing with all the correct sizes. And in the meantime the sailmaker had already delivered the sails, based on the rigging as it was built, not on the plans...
The boat lacked stiffness and broached too often.
At the time we didn't have the money to tackle the problem at the cause: new mast (and sails, etc.), so we tried to find other solutions. One of them was the rudder: this had to be deeper.

This photograph shows the rudder in the original situation.
The rudder was not so deep, and therefore not so effective when sailing to windward. In 1996, we reconstructed it.

Photo's left and in the middle show the reconstruction, which took us three days.
Four years later, we reconstructed the keel as well.
And in 2002, the rudder was re-reconstructed! (photo right)
