1999. We still had to reef before the others, and we broached more often. We were also not satisfied with the boat speed in big waves and decreasing wind speeds. Conclusion: the boat was too heavy, so we had to remove ballast and put it deeper.


This was easier said than done. It was a gigantic operation which took us a substantial part of the winter. 








The picture shows the melting pot on the burner. The fluid (boiling) lead was directed via a pipe into the mould. A valve was placed between melting pot and mould, so we could stop the lead flow. The stainless steel framework attached to the keel, to hold the lead, is clearly visible.
